THE ART OF AUTISM

For Parents -
Autism is a complex neuro-behavioral condition that includes impairments in social interaction and developmental language and communication skills combined with rigid, repetitive behaviour. Because of the range of symptoms, this condition is now called autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It covers a large spectrum of symptoms, skills, and levels of impairment. ASD ranges in severity from a handicap that somewhat limits an otherwise normal life to a devastating disability that may require institutional care.
Children with autism have trouble communicating. They have trouble understanding what other people think and feel. This makes it very hard for them to express themselves either with words or through gestures, facial expressions, and touch.
A child with ASD who is very sensitive may be greatly troubled sometimes even pained -- by sounds, touches, smells, or sights that seem normal to others.
You guys are doing fabulous job by grooming your kids who need extra attention and continuous support from you to become an independent person one day.

Some inputs I would like to reiterate for all of you:

Concentrate on Activities of daily living. We should involve children in the household activities as it will help them mature in life. Discipline should be there at home and adherence to Public- Private Concepts.

Regular guidance from experts and therapists should be taken. Do not keep on switching medicines from Allopathic to Ayurvedic or Homeopathy. It has harmful effects on children which aggravates Challenging behaviours, excessive weight gain, hormonal imbalance, anxiety issues, increased hyperactivity, psychological effect, epilepsy, and so..on… please be aware of false claims by many practitioners who claim that they can cur Autism or any other disorder.

Maintain diary on daily basis as it would be helpful for you in the coming year thereby giving you a chance to analyse and forecast certain changes in you and your child’s life. This would help to take precautionary measures in advance if any.

Never talk about Autism and child’s behaviour in front of the child as he or she is listening and they will have a negative impact of it. Don’t take always negative in front of your child. Keep on motivating the child thereby reinforcing good and acceptable behaviours at home and in society. Let them mix in society thereby experiential learning happens.

Hoping for the best.
